Nowadays only a small fishing fleet operates from Bridlington; the harbour is mostly full of leisure craft.

The Gypsey Race as the stream is known is the reason for the harbour and hence for Bridlington Town, the largest conurbation in East Yorkshire, Hull being a separate administrative district. The Chicken Run Jetty stands on wooden stilts.

A contrast in uses here, with a fish quay to the right, and a line of fast food and novelty rock emporiums to the left. One doesn't have to walk far in Bridlington to escape the crowds, noise and smell of fried onions.

The gulls are expert scavengers, as happy to take fish heads from the boats as to take chips from the holiday makers. Hats are sensible at the seaside!

The blue gantry / crane enables boats to be transferred between dry land and the water, and would make a great lego model. The harbour is here because of the water flow from the Gypsey Race, the only permanent water course in the high wolds. The building line in the photograph is the south pier which houses the fish market, but in front of that can be seen the Chicken Run Jetty standing on wooden stilts.
