Dist:0.4km<br/>The site of the old foundry. Earliest records for this site go back to 1666 with Joseph Chitty yeoman and blacksmith owning the place. The foundry was owned by the Smith family in Victorian times. Charles Smith bought the foundry in 1847. His son Richard and later Richard's son Nimrod worked here as iron founders. The Smith family leased foundry in 1935 to Percy George Witney. In the 1960s it became Cotton’s Service Station. Now it is Bramley Motors.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Grinsteads, the butchers, is now being redeveloped. Behind a number of luxury houses have just been built. Hopefully the tiles at the front of the shop will remain even if it is no longer a shop. Butchers have worked on this site as far back as 1841.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The tall Victorian building is the site of the Bramley Brewery, owned by the Smith family. Beer was brewed on this site from 1865 by William Smith. In 1901 his son Morton Smith was listed on the census as brewer and jeweller. In 1904 it was bought by Brufords of Cranleigh and in 1917 it was taken over by Cobham United Breweries. Further down, still visible in the photo, was the Foundry also owned by the Smith family. Charles Smith, William's father bought the foundry in 1847.
