At this point Beech Road, which has been almost level, plunges down a steep hill to meet the A4 about 100 yards further on. Hedgesparrow Lane takes a shorter route and a steeper hill to do the same.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This is the old workshops and offices of the Bath Stone Firms, now private residences. The doorway with the sign on is the entrance to Clift Quarry, part of the Box Quarry system that covers an area of nearly 600 acres.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The Macmillan Way long distance footpath follows the valley of the By Brook for seven miles between Box and Castle Combe. There is a complicated set of fields to cross here, mostly through gates although this stile for thin people is included. The brook is never more than 100 yards away.
