Scorn & Noise
The personal weblog of freelance writer Ben Locker. He writes about London in general and Hackney in particular, all jumbled up with thoughts on music, politics and passers-by.
Not The Clissold Leisure Centre
bling bling architecture ate our pools; "Funny and clever but not particularly nice"
Londres con Chicos (London with Kids)
Londres con Chicos is the first Website for spanish speaking parents living in London where you can find all kind of activities to do with small children. It is an effort of a group of parents trying to help other parents who might feel isolated because they have just arrived to London or maybe because they still have problems learning the language.

Nunhead Arts Week 2008: 19-28 September
Nunhead Arts Week (19-28 September) has something for everyone. Art may be at the heart of it but there’s a lot more besides.
First, the art. NUNHEAD OPEN 5 is Nunhead’s fifth open exhibition showing art created by people in the community. The Preview Evening is on Friday, 19 Sept, 6-8pm at the Old Insurance Shop, 26 Nunhead Lane. The exhibition continues: Sat/Sun (20-21 Sept) and Fri/Sat/Sun (26-28 Sept).
A high-spot of the Arts Week (rather longer than a week!) is the Green Day on Nunhead Green, Saturday, 20 Sept, midday to 5pm. This is as close to a village fair in an urban context as you’re ever going to get. Attractions include the pedal-powered Dynamo Cabaret; local allotments’ stall; a working blacksmith, bouncy castle and free BBQ. This and more will vie for attention in the free day on the Green.
On Saturday evening, bingo lovers can pop along to the Old Nun’s Head for a pint and Bingo Time, bingo with a difference.
On Sunday, 21 Sept, children can enjoy Fly Away Katie performed by Long Nose Puppets at Buchan Tenants Hall at 3pm. ‘Fairy Cakes’ -- an exhibition of paintings -- opens at The Frog on the Green, Consort Road, with a party from 4pm. Prior to that, there’s lunchtime jazz at the Old Nun’s Head.
Free tours of our splendid Nunhead Cemetery are offered on both Saturday and Sunday, at 2pm and 3pm.
The programme for the rest of the week includes life drawing at Ivydale Old School Keeper’s house (Mon, 7:30-9:30pm); older person’s drop in at Nunhead Library (Tues, 11:30am-1pm); writers’ workshop at Nunhead Library (Tues 7-9pm); Easycome Music Night at the Old Nun’s Head (Wed, 8pm); Family Reading Group at Nunhead Library (Thurs, 5:30-6:30pm); Comedy Night starring Arthur Smith and the Pull The Other One crew at The Ivy House (Thurs, 8:30pm); Mike Leigh’s Happy-Go-Lucky film at The Old Nun’s Head (Fri, 8pm); and a Nunhead Walk led by historian, Ron Woollacott (Sun, 11:30am).
Come along and enjoy art, community, fun and culture in our unique and vibrant neighborhood.
