Dist:0.3km north<br/>This picture was taken from outside the Globe pub (104 Windmill Road, corner of Boston Gardens) on the 3rd of January 1987. Across the way is Eastbourne Road, and in the distance is the Alfa Laval office by the M4. The man with the camera was about to take a picture of the pub, so I will one day persuade him to sign up to Geograph and submit it!

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Address: 90-94 Windmill Road, Brentford, TW8 9NA (at junction with the Great west Road). This property has been unoccupied for years. The top of the perimeter wall is studded with broken glass. It is the suspected site of the Flush Bracket S0925. (These are metal plates cemented flush into the faces of buildings. You can also find them on triangulation pillars. Flush Brackets are a type of bench mark. Each has a number on it, but this is just a serial number and does not give the height above sea level). This flush bracket was used during the Re-levelling of Greater London, and was levelled with a height of 41.1640 feet [12.5468 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Staines to British Museum levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on S. face of bldg., near junc. of Great West Rd. & Windmill Rd. The top of the perimeter wall is studded with broken glass.

The white building on the right with the tower was the "DOME" Garage.The white building left was the premises of "CRANE VALVES", and situated on the south side of the junction.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>View looking up from Brook Lane by the end of York Road. The building is derelict awaiting redevelopment and is being used as a giant poster site by the M4 motorway. Dist:0.4km north<br/>The building is empty. A major development of apartments has been proposed but not accepted. In the mean time the building is a huge poster site beside the M4. At the top of the building is wording: "The Great West Road - Golden Mile of Art Deco architecture". The green facing and windows are painted on fabric covering the building. The building in 1987 is shown in [[345457]].

Dist:0.5km north<br/>This poster stand has two levels, the upper to be seen by motorists on the elevated M4 motorway, the lower to be seen by people on the A4 Great West Road. Beyond is the empty former Alfa Laval building, also being used as a poster site.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>This TVU building is very noticeable from the elevated M4 - and very close to it. TVU has some plainer blocks of student accommodation on the site. Dist:0.6km east<br/>This stretch of the M4 motorway runs above the A4 Great West Road. The sign is for the roundabout where the B455 to Ealing and Brentford joins the A4. Visible under the motorway is a new building, which is all glass.
