Its owners have agreed to sell the UK stores to Asda, and it now seem the Office of Fair Trading will allow this deal to go through. Asda will take over 194 Netto stores and rebrand them. The remaining 47 it will be obliged to sell. Whether this one becomes an Asda, presumably depends on how near it is to an existing Asda store. On the opposite side of the road is a Lidl supermarket.

Dist:0.3km<br/>When Davis Stowell photographed this building in September 2006, it was still in use as a police station. [[247068]]. Since then it has closed, and been partially boarded up. The Police now cover this area from other stations. The building has been for sale, and some months ago a planning application was made to turn it into a 30 bed hostel for destitute men. This upset a number of local people and traders. According to the Birmingham Mail of the 24th August 2010, "Traders and residents, more than a hundred of who have backed a petition opposing the scheme, fear it will lower the tone of the area and claim it could attract criminal elements". Meanwhile many of the 31,000 plus residents of Bordesley Green, who didn't sign the petition, have been telling the Police that their main concerns are drug dealing and the crimes associated with it, anti-social behaviour, the unauthorised dumping of litter, graffiti, and the dangerous driving of motor vehicles in the area. To that can be added the fact that the area is a hot spot for uninsured motor vehicles, and that in recent years there has sometimes been massive fraud in local elections, involving intimidation and a large number of fraudulent postal votes, which has resulted in some councillors being disqualified. So probably for most people, the future of the police station is a bit of a minor issue.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Bordesley Green Police and Fire Stations are good examples of civic buildings built on a grand scale in similar styles. The Police Station is still very much in use (and now seems to be discreetly fortified!) whilst the Fire Station has been renovated and converted into offices and flats.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Located on the corner of Norwood Road, and the main road known as Bordesley Green, this pub is closed and to let. Whether it will re-open as a pub is perhaps questionable. There are hardly any pubs left around here, and it is probably too far from the Birmingham City football ground to get much of the matchday trade. This is an area of Birmingham where the tourists don't come. This road is a bit of an unattractive jumble of residential, shops, offices, the motor trade, industrial sites, other uses, and a few boarded up buildings as well. Next door on the right are industrial premises. A JCB or similar can be see parked behind the fence. [[2171210]]. [[2171255]].

Dist:0.4km<br/>Situated on one of the main roads in this area of Birmingham, both the road and area being known as Bordesley Green. The pub has closed and is currently to let. This area has changed greatly in recent decades and there is now not a lot of demand here for traditional public houses. This one is probably a little bit too far from Birmingham City's football ground, to benefit from the huge match day trade. [[2171240]]. [[2171255]].
