Name of building not known, but this is the southern approach to the lock in the middle of Kidderminster. The church tower can just be seen in the background.

Situated just outside the newly developed part of Kidderminster, this dilapidated warehouse patiently awaits its fate. Refurbishment perhaps, a renovated exterior housing state of the art offices, or the final death knell, demolition, to make way for housing ? Watch this space !

It is interesting to compare this shot with David's, taken some 15 years earlier. A great deal of time and money has been recently been spent improving the overall condition of the canal and towpath in this area. The electricity sub-station looks uncannily similar to how it did all those years ago.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The sign which hung at the front of this closed pub has unfortunately gone, though the bracket to which it was attached is still in place as can be seen from this view [[1101006]]. Fortunately there is still a sign showing a picture of the Prince on the wall at one end of the pub. The pub is named after Prince Albert, who was the consort of Queen Victoria. The Queen died in 1901 but the Prince died much earlier in 1861. Possibly the pub was named after the Prince in his lifetime.

Dist:0.1km<br/>This public house has been closed and boarded up for some years. It probably faces demolition as there is no sign to show that it is for sale or to let. Many pubs in Kidderminster have closed in the last few years, for example [[1100820]] and [[1094639]]. Even relatively modern pubs are not safe [[1063266]]

Dist:0.2km<br/>On a dull New Year's Day there is very little traffic on this normally very busy roundabout. Here two parts of Kidderminster's so-called ring road (it's only a partial ring)Proud Cross Ringway and Park Butts Ringway meet with Bewdley Road and Chapel Street. Presumably the strange names of the sections of the ring road relate to areas or things which were flattened to enable the road to be built.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Sometimes known as The Sportsman Inn, though that word "Inn" doesn't appear on the building's exterior. This is another of Kidderminster's hidden back street pubs, although this one has the advantage of a sizeable car park. The housing to the immediate right of the pub is new.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The end house in Peel Street (no. 88) is still displaying a large faded advertisement for M & B Ales Wines Spirits. M & B stands for Mitchells & Butlers, who originally were a very well-known West Midlands brewery. The brewery closed some years ago and today the company is involved in various leisure interests, including owning large chains of pubs. These include the Harvester chain, and for whom other companies supply the beers. The significance of the M & B advert is that it almost certainly indicates that no. 88 Peel Street was at one time an off-licence, probably many years ago. Less likely perhaps, it may have been a pub but looks rather too small for this. On the end wall there is clear indication that another advert has either been removed or worn away. The window on this wall is also of a type you would associate with a shop rather than a private residence. Although the M & B advert on the front is very weathered, it is just possible to see that it was in fact painted over an earlier advert. All that can be made out of this, for certain, are the words "Mitchells" and "Ales", both in capital letters.
