Located in Church Street this inn dates back to 1300.

The church and the adjacent Jericho Priory are moated. The church is all that remains of an Augustine Priory built in the 12th century.

Blackmore derives its name from old English - "the black marsh". It is an attractive village approx. 6 miles north of Brentwood. The village green is called 'Horsefayre Green'.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The sign is located next to a road called The Green. Behind it you can see one of two ponds that are either side of The Green, at the junction with the Ingatestone Road. I think the ponds may be linked.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This is the west end of the church. Although the main body of the church is Norman, its impressive timber tower is quoted in Pevsner as dating from c1480.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is a view from inside the timber tower and shows the original Norman entrance to the priory with the nave beyond. This would have been on the exterior as the tower was added after the priory was dissolved in 1527. The arch is 12th century, dating back to when the priory was founded for Augustinian Canons.
