Dist:0.2km<br/>This sign is actually incorrect - in that it is not a no-through road. One can actually drive all the way down this length of Sandy Lane and exit to the A452 at the end, even if you have to turn left there back towards Leamington. What it really means is that only cyclists can use this road as a route to Kenilworth. Sandy Lane was the main route between Leamington and Kenilworth until the 1830's, when as part of the development of Leamington's new town a straight turnpike road was built between The Parade and the Kenilworth end of today's Sandy Lane. It avoided the steep hill on Sandy Lane shown here. Many cyclists today still prefer to negotiate the hill rather than tussle with traffic on the 'new' road.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Junction of the A452 north out of Leamington, Old Milverton Lane from the south-west, and the B4113 from Stoneleigh and Finham to the north-east. Blackdown is a detached suburb between Kenilworth and Leamington. It is characterised by Edwardian or late Victorian mansions set in extensive planted grounds - Giant Redwoods are prominent. The houses have all been converted to other uses and massively extended - Woodland Grange is seen on the right [[1540420]]. When the county council remodelled the junction they entered into the spirit of the place and planted Giant Redwoods on the roundabout. The first trees succumbed to a severe frost but their replacements, seen here, are thriving. Sadly, the species never reaches its full stature in Britain because the trees tend to be struck by lightning once they become the tallest thing in the landscape.
