Dist:0.4km<br/>Where the Grand Union Canal runs along side the River Soar in Leicester and the north of the county it joins with the river. The river system frequently floods here, overflowing onto the flat water meadows in the middle of the photo. I took this photograph from the footbridge which follows the line of a long weir. When in flood the water pours over the weir into a wide drainage channel. The houses in the distance are in Birstall, a large village, now absorbed by the Leicester suburbs.
