It has been neglected for many years and is in much need of repair. On a recent visit to the tower the access door was sealed off due to the dangerous condition of the roof. Dist:0.5km<br/>Access to the castle perched on Minto Craigs, can be made by a woodland path from the Ancrum to Denholm road.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The line of an old ford runs between the foreground boulder and the stones on the far bank. The near bank is now eroded and steep. This was in use as the main crossing point on the Teviot to reach Minto and Hassendean before Denholm Bridge was built in 1864.
