Otterburn Hall Hotel Friends of the Orangutan-08/08/08

 (23 miles away)

Dear Friends of the Orangutan,
You are among those who have a deep appreciation of the value of the orangutan, not only in itself but also as an ambassador for the most richly diverse regions on the planet, the rainforests of South East Asia, and the importance of these regions to the stability of our global climate, a point reiterated time and time again by scientists expert in the field.
Thanks to you, support has continued to grow for BOS and its efforts on behalf of the orangutan over the last 12 months. What we have achieved so far would have been impossible without you, but there is still so much more to do. You have signed petitions, sent letters to your MP and your supermarkets, told friends and family about the situation in Borneo and done your own fundraising in many shapes and forms; from Dominic Hammond making leather bracelets from off cuts of his fathers’ upholstery business and selling them to raise money for BOS to Andi Campbell-Waite jumping in an old Citroen and driving across many time zones to Morocco. It all means so, so much to the orang-utans and gives them what they do not have, a voice.
As you may all be aware, it costs approximately 1.2 million dollars per year to maintain the Nyaru Menteng sanctuary. Rescuing at-risk orang-utans and buying islands for orang-utans for whom it is time to move on from Forest School 2 to the next stage of the rehabilitation process are just some of the other costs for which Lone has to find funds.
With a view to continuing to raise the funds needed to maintain our work in Borneo, BOS would like to invite you to share in a concept, which we hope you will find as exciting as we do. BOS has decided to adopt 8th August 2008 as a Day for the Orang-utan, when we endeavour to bring together so many like-minded people in an effort to send a message to those involved in the unabated destruction of the rainforests, primarily for the production of palm oil.
Anything you can do will help. You can download our fundraising literature for hints, tips and ideas here.
