The factory was opened in 1869 for the processing of the Alaskan furseal. The wall is all that remains of the original construction. The white building behind was erected I believe in the 1950s.

The headquarters of the London City Mission is built on what remains of the old St John's Church, Horsleydown (destroyed in World War 2). The churchyard had been a park since long before the War and was restored by Southwark Council in 2002.

Formerly the churchyard of St John's Horsleydown, now occupied by [[332336]], the remainder of the site is a public park that was restored by Southwark Council in 2002. The distinctive London Assembly building can be seen in the background.

At its northern end, Bermondsey Street crosses under the approaches to London Bridge station immediately beneath the signal box.

Bermondsey street was originally a causeway across marshland to the south of the River Thames giving access to Bermondsey Abbey. It later became an area associated with leather tanning and in recent years has regenerated as an artistic and commercial centre.
