The building has indoor courts, and there are outdoor hard courts beyond it. It forms part of the John Charles centre for sport (formerly South Leeds Sports centre)

This stadium was originally known as South Leeds Stadium, and was renamed in honour of John Charles "The Gentle Giant" (1931-2004). He was a footballer who played for Leeds United (1948-1957) and Wales (1950-1965). See his entry on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Charles
The stadium is the home of Hunslet Hawks Rugby League, and hosts athletics events.

The white tower above the horizon near left is the Parkinson Building at Leeds University. The tallest building just to its right is Bridgewater Place, with the clock tower of Leeds Town Hall just beside it on the right. To the right of that in the distance are the buildings of Leeds Metropolitan University, with the office block above Leeds Station in front of them, just left of centre.

A fairly new facility at this extensive sports centre, formerly known as South Leeds Sports Centre.

The whole of the east wall of the stadium at the John Charles Centre for Sport has been decorated with graffiti, which looks as though it has been sanctioned by the authorities. The section here says "John Charles" - see behind the wall at [[[337636]]]

This is the remains of a bell pit in Middleton Woods. The hollow was created when the roof of the bell pit collapsed. Coal under Middleton was the reason for building the Middleton Railway, Britain's first.

This path was originally a waggonway for transporting tubs of coal downhill. The present Middleton Railway terminates close to the end of this path.
