Dist:0.4km<br/>When Bawdeswell School was built in 1875, it only had a playground, and no field. Some years later, the field behind the school was bought from a farmer, to use as a playing field. An outdoor theatre was set up in later years- with hedges for the wings, etc! When Bawdeswell was bypassed in the 1970s, the new A1067 road went behind the school field, and the roar of traffic made it impossible to use the outdoor theatre. The theatre area has now been returned to a flat grassed area.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Looking as if it should belong on a private estate this splendid church stands serenely in the street at Bawdeswell. There have been three churches on this site; the mediaeval church was partially destroyed when the tower collapsed onto the nave in 1739. After a further collapse in 1829, the site was cleared and another church was built in 1843 which was itself destroyed when a mosquito returning from a bombing raid crashed into it in 1944. This church, with its broached spirelet and apsidal east end is the loveliest. In the crisp interior of the nave is an undecorated ice cream cone shaped font and a triple-decker pulpit with a faded pine patina. It is different and very pleasant but historically void of interest, even the parish chest was made by a parishioner in 1952.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The former (old) All Saints church was destroyed when a Mosquito bomber crashed into it in 1944, and the new building is the only parish church in the whole of Norfolk that was erected after WWII > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/831242. The church was built in brick and flint by the architect James Fletcher Watson who also designed the three-decker pulpit > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/831253. The unusual south doorway is flanked by two Tuscan columns > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/831248. Several continental stained glass roundels are inserted in the windows; the church also houses a memorial fashioned from parts of the crashed plane to the pilot and co-pilot, who both lost their lives.
