Dist:0.6km<br/>The signs are needed so that the unobservant boater intending to cruise northwards on the Grand Union canal uses the lock to the right. The one to the left enters the River Chess, which is navigable for a short way, but I'm sure any boater who went this way either intended to do so or would soon realise their lack of attention.
