Unusual in this area for the principal street in a village not to be called Main Street. Works Lane is to the right.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>The evidence of medieval strip farming methods in this field is clearly visible in the November afternoon sunshine. Roadside Farm is to the right and was my intended destination on my walk. The missed footpath runs diagonally across the right hand corner of this photograph towards the gap between the buildings. Dist:0.1km north<br/>This footpath leads from Main Road to Station Farm and Granby. To the left is Roadside Farm, now developed into The Brambles business units, and to the right modern housing on Orchard Close. Straight ahead is the field in [[611634]].

Dist:0.1km north<br/>Orchard Close, 1970s style housing in a tiny village. There are more modern houses here than old cottages. The cement works dominate this village and can be seen in the distance at the end of the road.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Window on the north wall. The church is very small and you can see right through to the south side. The main body of the glass in these windows is clear but the roundels at the top of each one are made of stained glass. You can see the colour in the far window.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>On Works Lane, a bright white cottage surrounded by several new brick houses.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>There are several small blocks of old workers' cottages on Works Lane, built for employees of the cement works which started up in 1885. These are numbers 2 and 4. Where there was once fields in between there are now modern houses, a classic case of in-fill development.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Looking back the way I'd come. The footpath starts on Barnstone Lane on the centre horizon. The field to the right was sown with winter wheat and that to the left was pasture full of sheep. The farm on the left is Church Farm and [[611162]] is hidden amongst the trees just to the left of centre. Follow the photographer's walk from number 1 to number 6 through [[SK7335]] to [[SK7435]].

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Behind the viewpoint is the main village, to the right is St Mary's Church and straight ahead the road goes past the last houses in the village and the old station yard on its way to Granby. The buildings in the far left hand distance are The Old Sidings, a modern house built on the station site; see [[65397]].
