Dist:0.9km<br/>The signal box controls the adjacent level crossing. It is notorious as being one of the worst crossings in Shropshire for people jumping the red lights. They are recorded by CCTV cameras, so dozens of these foolhardy people are successfully prosecuted each year, but that does not seem to deter others. Now there is controversy over plans to replace the signal box by remotely controlling the crossing from a centre in Cardiff in South Wales. If the plan goes ahead, the change is likely to happen in November 2011. The signal box has another claim to fame, as in 2001 the railwayman then on duty had been drinking, and fell into a drunken stupor. As a result, there was a queue of stranded trains on this important trunk route. A rail manager called to investigate why calls to the box were not being answered, had to call medics who needed 30 minutes to rouse the man. He was, needless to say, suspended from duty pending a full investigation.

Dist:0.9km<br/>The train didn't actually stop here, but was photographed passing through. This three carriage diesel multiple unit train was manufactured between 1999 and 2001 by Alstom at Washwood Heath, Birmingham. It is one of a class known as Coradia. Arriva Trains Wales is owned by a German company, Deutsche Bahn AG, who are successors to the German State Railways.

Dist:0.9km<br/>The station is on the Shrewsbury to Crewe line. Not every train stops here. There are few facilities here, although both platforms have a bus shelter type covered waiting area. [[2331938]].

Dist:0.9km<br/>The station no longer has a ticket office, although the numbers of passengers travelling from here continues to rise, now exceeding 100,000 a year. Tickets can however be bought on the train. The station has also lost its footbridge, so passengers needing to cross the line, now have to use the adjacent level crossing, from where this photograph was taken. The footbridge which can be seen in the far distance, is a long way from here, and connects two footpaths. [[2331950]].
