The footpath provides an alternative way to reach Cossall instead of staying on the bridleway. There is little distance saved!

A mature oak in a field near Awsworth. There is no obvious reason for the lopsidedness, as no other trees close at hand show the same feature, as they would if it was windblow., The footpath beneath this tree offers an alternative field route to Awsworth instead of using the bridleway along farm tracks.

The presence of a culvert under the track suggests that the watercourse might have started higher up, or even in Spring Wood. However, the presence of a yew tree of considerable age indicates that this has probably been the location of a very ancient shrine. The watercourse leaving the spring is quite large, although currently quite dry. [[607173]]

Dist:0.4km<br/>The wood is much larger today than is shown on the 1970 1:50000 map, and used to consist of just the north-east section. It is not clear whether the name is related to the stream which is shown as rising adjacent to the bridleway from which this view was taken.
