This section of the circle is in the northern half of the square, east of the B4003 and south of the minor road with which it intersects. The picture was taken from the minor road looking more or less south east.

This square contains the remains of Avebury Stone Circle and some of the village of Avebury, as well as two roads. This view is of a section of the circle near the recreation ground and parking area. The picture was taken from the west side of the road, looking more or less east, south east, in the early evening.

The stone in the foreground is a tall 'masculine' pillar on the west side of the Kennet Avenue. Just beyond is the next stone to the south-east. The south-west face of the standing stone is illuminated by the low winter sun that is about to set behind Waden Hill.

Stone 13a on the left (east side of the avenue), a 'male' pillar. Stone 13b on the right (west side of the avenue), a 'female' lozenge. This is first set of paired stones standing in the Kennet Avenue as you go towards the Sanctuary from the southern entrance of Avebury henge. These stones were re-erected by Alexander Keiller.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is the view looking south from the bank of the henge at Avebury. This crop circle is in a field of ripe wheat on the northern end of Waden Hill, and a large number of tourists are taking the opportunity to visit. Avebury is famed for "alternative" things such as crop circles, UFO sightings and so on. I don't know the origin of this particular "phenomenon", although lots of German tourists kept quizzing me about it.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The size of these ditches is truly awe inspiring. Compare the size of the human figures. They were apparently dug using antler picks and shoulder blade bones as shovels. Amazing stuff!
