Dist:0.3km<br/>Here, the plain is essentially a single great pasture with few walls and structures due to frequent inundations when the river rises out of its normal channel. The low, wooded hill behind Ali is Windy Bank above Hornby, which separates the Lune and the Wenning (one of its major tributaries). Whernside and Ingleborough (both of which send water down the Wenning) are visible and also Penyghent (which does not). These are the famous Three Peaks of Yorkshire. Pronunciation tips: Aughton = 'Affton', Claughton = 'Claffton'.

Dist:0.6km<br/>This part of the flood plain is effectively one vast cattle pasture. These fellows followed us enthusiastically for quite some way. The Claughton brick works chimney can just be seen above the trees on the right. Ingleborough broods darkly in the distance.

Dist:0.6km<br/>This chap was one of a big herd that took a shine to us as we walked down the River Lune below Claughton. I took this zoom shot standing behind the fence of a small anglers' hut near the river bend. Ingleborough just disappearing behind a shower of rain and Hornby Castle on the far left.
