Dist:0.0km north<br/>Mr Parnaby must be the man depicted on the pub sign, but I don't know who he was. There are several streets called Parnaby nearby. The pub is on the east side of Middleton Road, opposite the junction of Woodhouse Hill Road, and just to the north of the bridge that crosses the M621.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>Looking east towards Junction 7. This section of the M621 was originally part of the M1, but was renamed when the new section of the M1 was built to connect the M1 to the A1. Looking at the 1940's map on Vision of Britain, it looks like this section of road was built on a former railway line.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>Looking west along the motorway, the traffic approaching the camera is coming from the City Centre. Getting busy at about 4 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>This is a small square of houses near the cemetery on the east side of Middleton Road. A large plaque on the gable end of the north group states "Erected and endowed by John Scott Esq. A.D. 1896" and a similar plaque on the south gable "Trustees Samuel Scott Stanley, Joseph Gale, George Mellen, Revd Canon Thompson, Robert E Emsley. John E Leak Architect". Leeds City Council's "Listed Building Gazeteer", shows that they are Grade 2 listed buildings. The bust in the centre is of John Scott and is also Grade 2 listed.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>This is the eastern section, looking east towards the sliproad and bridge at Junction 7 of the M621. These graves are some of the oldest in the cemetery, near the chapel which was just behind me. To the south of this section, out of the picture, is a modern section with recent graves.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>The cemetery is in 2 sections, and Middleton Road runs between them. This photo was taken in the eastern section, with my back to the chapel, looking across Middleton Road into the western section, with the War Memorial in the distance. The cemetery opened in 1845 and is still in use.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>This is in the western section of the cemetery, on the west side of Middleton Road which runs between the 2 parts of the cemetery. Looking west. Unfortunately somebody has set a fire on the plinth which has damaged some of the stone and blackened the side. See also [[[202204]]] which is a similar design.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>The A61/A639 pass under the M621 motorway at this bridge. It is almost a twin of Stourton South bridge, except that it is founded on spread footings. The underlying coal workings were grouted with a mix of PFA and cement before the bridge was built in 1970. The Leeds Supertram was planned to run alongside the carriageway under the bridge to a park and ride interchange close by.
