Dist:0.2km<br/>Tucked away in its own paddock at the corner of a field and above the houses in Station Road is the Memorial raised in 1931 to commemorate the Lollard Martyrs who were burned at the stake in 1521 for exercising their claimed rights of religious liberty. Dist:0.3km<br/>This is within the Chiltern District Council area, the second tier local authority that is responsible for street waste collection. Councils normally ask that the bins are left by the kerbside, as here, and that they must be completely closed, i.e. not overflowing, unlike here. Landfill waste, usually in black bins, is usually collected once every two weeks, with recyling and/or green waste collected during the opposite week. However it appears that here the collections are on the same day, so we had lorries going in opposite directions causing quite a bottleneck on this busy road. The white lorry, collecting green waste, is operated by a contractor Verdant.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Viewed looking upstream from the A416 Station Road bridge, the river is definitely not in the bottom of the valley here, with the ground to the left generally lower. However an examination of the 1883 Ordnance Survey map shows a corn mill just downstream of here by The Chequers public house, and a smaller stream running through the lowest part of the valley, so the main route of the river is now probably running in a leat built to provide a head of water for the mill. In the meantime the original route of the river has disappeared from sight entirely.
