Dist:0.5km<br/>These beautiful cottages are Grade II listed with English Heritage Building ID: 311433. Originally a 16th or 17th C. house and adjoining building, possibly a barn, but now two dwellngs. No. 30 is timber framed, with lower floor underbuilt in brick and No. 32 of brick; with a common thatched roof. There is a datestone inscribed WS AS / 1647. Dist:0.5km<br/>This is the second grotesque with cannibalistic tendencies I've seen. The other one is 40 kilometres north in Gloucestershire [[1516481]]. There is presumably some sort of tale to be told by these intriguing little tableaux.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This standing wall monument is described by Pevsner as 'an original and impressive piece'. Dedicated to William Ernle and his wife Jone (sic), it has carvings of three eagles on the curved gable, above which is a date of 1581. Below, are the initials of William Ernle accompanied by exquisite knotwork, and a coat of arms with stylised rose trails left and right, all of a very high quality. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2838423

Dist:0.5km<br/>The font is of a typical 15th century design with a low octagonal bowl. The cover dates from 1633 and was given by the Reverend Robert Byng, a former Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge until he saw the light at the age of 44 and escaped to Wiltshire. Sadly he backed the wrong team in the English Civil War and was ejected from his living in 1646. He died in 1658 two years before the Restoration. The play area equipment is probably early 21st century.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This is the north elevation of the church. The small porch is the oldest part of what can be seen here dating to the 11th and 12th centuries. The tower and the pitched-roof transept are as rebuilt in the 15th century. The clock tower is a relatively recent addition although I have been unable to date it. The name 'All Cannings' is derived in part from an ancient tribe called the Caningas. They also gave their name to Caen Hill near Devizes and possibly also Calne. The 'All' part may have come from the Saxon 'ald' meaning old. Up to 1841 All Cannings was known as Allcannings. Later in the 19th century it was 'AllCannings'. By the beginning of the 20th century All Cannings took the name it bears to this day.
