Dist:0.5km<br/>This old station building caught my eye near the roundabout where the A16 crosses the A17. The 'Waiting Room' and 'Stationmaster' signs are in the style and colours used by the Eastern Region of British Railways in the 1950's. According to Alan Stennet's book, 'Lost Railways of Lincolnshire', Algarkirk and Sutterton was a station on the Lincolnshire Loop Line of the Great Northern Railway. It is strange to think that this line reached Yorkshire from King's Cross (by way of Boston) before the East Coast Main Line was completed. The station was closed in the early 1960's, at the time of the 'Beeching cuts'. The old railway alignment - which ran pretty much straight between Spalding and Boston - was then adopted for the new A16, replacing a more meandering route via Gosberton.

Dist:0.5km<br/>Great Northern Railway station on the Boston to Peterborough line opened in 1848, closed to passengers in 1961 and closed completely in 1964. The modern A16 follows the course of the line but the Stationmaster's house and ticket office were saved.
