Taken from the minor road at SO 83515 76309, the photograph depicts the view looking north-west across the town centre of Kidderminster. This is a view which has changed considerably over the past four years during which time some of the former carpet factories have made way for new retail developments. Much of the town�s layout differs from its current representation on the OS map : the bus station and law courts now occupy different sites, and the river has been re-routed in order to accommodate a super-market car park.

A popular venue with swimming pool, gym, various other sports facilities, a bar and a cafe. The Arena area can be used for events and can hold 1,350 people seated, or 1,800 standing. The centre dates from the mid-1980's.

Dist:0.1km<br/>This Kidderminster pub is in the town centre, but it's a bit tucked away. The Ring Road now blocks this end of Worcester Street, which ends in a turning circle. The building itself dates from 1888 and probably the pub does too. Sometimes it's known as just the Boars Head, sometimes as The Taphouse, and sometimes as The Boars Head Taphouse. It obviously was at one time next to or near the brewery which supplied it, but that has long gone. It should be said, before anyone jumps up and down, that the pub doesn't use an apostrophe in Boars. The pub has a website but this doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time, but the pub is very much alive and, as can be seen, was awaiting a beer delivery when the photograph was taken. http://thetaphouse.tripod.com/#

Dist:0.1km<br/>This elaborate construction is a drinking fountain, and is found where the pavement of Worcester Street (on the left) merges with that of Green Street. In the book, "The Buildings of England Worcestershire" (Brooks & Pevsner; Yale University Press),it is briefly described as: "... a good gabled Gothic canopied fountain by J.T. Meredith, 1876. Octagonal with an arcade of red granite shafts, two-stage pyramidal roof with animal gargoyles; carving by William Forsyth." To that can be added that some sides have clocks and the water supply no longer appears to be connected.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The other end of Worcester Street is the busier part, as it is full of shops and other businesses. This end is much quieter, as many of its buildings have gone, and it ends in a turning place. The pub on the left survives: [[1307368]]. To the left of that is an office of DWT Legal, a firm of solicitors.

Dist:0.1km<br/>As a lorry driver, I don't get much opportunity to explore the places I drive to - my contact with Kidderminster doesn't go much beyond this view of The Ringway. Looking at this web site makes me realise what an interesting place it really is.
