Already preoccupied with Christmas shopping? So many little additional bits and pieces have been available to women to finish off ""a look"" and make the wearer not only feel beautiful, but unique! Personalising one's appearance has now become essential self-expression to many.

The range of accessories that survive is huge, from Roman broaches and rings to the shell necklace revival of the last couple of years. Many items were considered important in certain settings, would be seen as very odd today, eg fans, decorative hair combs, lorgnettes, buttonhole holders, hand-muffs and hat pins.
