Dist:0.2km<br/>Now disused, previously supplied power and process steam to Williamson's lino factory which stretched for 1/2 mile on south bank of River Lune west of Lancaster. Shut down in 1960s held 3 boiler/ turbine units, coal fired, of some 30MW capacity.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Part of the old Williamson's site, which was principally used to manufacture linoleum. The old power station chimney is in the background. The industrial estate now has a number of small units, many of which cover recycling and waste disposal. Redevelopment has been planned for many years, but presumably this will have to wait for more prosperous times.

(See Gordon Cann's photo for more details [[1916218]].) This road is rather grandly called Europa Way, and used to form part of the railway from Lancaster to Glasson Dock.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Westfield Memorial Village originated after the 1st World War. A Lancaster Industrialist, Herbert Storey, donated the land and in 1918 the landscape architect, Thomas Mawson designed the Village. A committee was formed which became a charity in 1919 with the primary aim of providing residential accommodation for Disabled and Necessitous Members and Ex-Members of HM Forces and their relatives and dependants who came from Lancashire and the North West of England. Finance was raised locally by public subscription and the first stage of the Village was completed and opened on 27th November 1924 by Field Marshal Earl Haig. Many of the houses are in the 'Arts and Crafts' style.
